Chapter 5 - Support for Input/Output Devices
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completing this chapter you will be able to perform tasks relating to:
INTRODUCTION
This chapter focuses on identifying I/O devices and bus connections.
CONNECTORS
Listed below are I/O cards.
8-bit ISA bus connection - it is an 8-bit industry standard architecture bus used on the orginal 8088 computers.
16 - bit ISA bus connection - it is a 16-bit ISA bus designed for the 186 AT and is still used in Pentiums for modems.
Microchannel Architecture (MCA) bus - this was the earlier 32-bit design by IBM, used in the PS/2 computers.
EISA (Extended Industry Standard Architecture) bus - was designed to compete with the MCA bus.
VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) bus - was a local bus used on 80486 compuer for connecting 32 bit adapters.
